D72, Dirk Wershofen, is a German DJ and producer who started his venture into the techno world during the early 90s. Despite facing numerous rejections as a producer, his breakthrough moment came when he introduced a fresh style to his music, blending modern elements and techno kicks. Drawing inspiration from diverse genres like Future Rave, Trance, and Techno, D72 created a unique sound that resonated with his fans worldwide. This success led to performances on prestigious stages globally and garnered support from renowned artists like Armin Van Buuren and Ruben de Ronde, Markus Schulz, Aly & Fila, Solarstone, Paul van Dyk, and more. D72 has also showcased his talent on respected labels such as Armada and Black Hole Recordings.
In the tough music industry, facing challenges is common, but when a life-changing opportunity arrives, appreciation for everything intensifies. Recognizing the difficulty of getting noticed, Dirk Wershofen decided to start guiding new talents. This is where Cresta enters the scene. Knocking on Dirk’s door, Cresta politely asked him to check his work. Dirk accepted and upon hearing his track he was thoroughly impressed. He was so amazed that he chose to assist Cresta in refining his production skills.
Truth be told, when Cresta initially crafted the sound for “This Is Acid!”, Dirk sensed its potential as a hit; he just needed to infuse his touch, and refine it a bit. Arny, the head of Black Hole, was surprised by Dirk’s choice to collaborate with someone relatively unknown. However, Dirk clarified that it was all about supporting artists, just as Arny had done for him in the past when he was still unknown. And there it was—a techno banger with melodic elements and a top layer of acid flavor was born. From the moment D72 emerged onto the scene, the boundaries between techno and trance were shattered, and he intends to continue pushing them. The same happens with “This Is Acid”, believe it or not.
